2010 Projects-Computer Graphics and Design

Its been a while since I last updated this good ol’ blog, so I thought that I might add some of my new stuff from my Computer Graphics and Design course. I have changed schools this year, I am currently at the Tasmanian Academy-Newstead Campus which in simple terms is ‘Newstead College’.

Video Effects

Probably the best thing I’ve done in Lightwave 9.6 so far this year. I got a model of Dr. Who’s TARDIS and then set up a motion path so it would fly around a panorama of Sydney, then in Photoshop CS4 I cut a part of the image out, and then in Premiere CS4 I applied that image as a mask over the other 2 layers (the TARDIS and the background image) so that it would ‘fly behind’ some of the buildings. The video is on YouTube:

Cow UV Mapping Project

This project involved UV mapping an image onto a pre-made model of a cow.

UV mapping according to Wikipedia is:“The process of UV Mapping transforms the texture map onto the 3D object. In contrast to “X”, “Y” and “Z” Cartesian Coordinates, which are the coordinates for the original 3D object in the modeling space, another set of coordinates is required to describe the surface of the mesh, so the letters “U” and “V” are used. The UV mapping process involves assigning pixels in the image to surface mappings on the polygon, usually done by “programmatically” copying a triangle shaped piece of the image map and pasting it onto a triangle on the objectLink

For my cow, I chose to use an image of a ‘certified Angus beef’ logo on a tartan like back ground. As usual the images were ‘fixed up’ in Photoshop cs4, and all the 3D stuff in Lightwave 9.6.

News Program Introduction

The Earth with the ’96 News @ 6′ logo was for a project where I had to design a news program introduction. More info is in this PDF portfolio.Ethan_Jones_PDF_Portfolio_News_Intro_2010 (100MB)

The Shade structure was a design I came up with to provide extra shade for a patch of grass around the corner of the computer graphics room.

All the 3D stuff was modeled on LightWave 9.6 and then touched up on Photoshop CS4 and then some were put into Premiere CS4 and made into a video, and the flash stuff was created in Flash Pro CS4.

Enjoy

    Awesome stuff Jonesy!
I Particularly like the shade structure. Some nice shadows, and rather good realism! You should try rendering it in an unbiased renderer or enable ambient occlusion for less of that stark contrast. AWESOME JOB! keep up the good work!:)
